Newport International Polo: A VIP LTD. Tradition!

Summer in Newport is always a busy time in the real estate industry, however, Mary and I always make time to entertain friends and clients for a fun tailgate picnic. Hosting guests for a tailgate picnic is a longstanding tradition for Vanderbilt International Properties (VIP Ltd.). Tailgate picnics are a great way to introduce people to the game of polo and one another. We generally host all of the international matches with the menu and set-up inspired by the visiting teams country. Many of our clients are new to the area, so it is a fun way for them to meet some nice people and many new friendships are formed.

Newport Polo Origins and Ways to Enjoy the Match

Newport International Polo was original founded in 1991 by Dan Keating with just a few spectators. Seven years later he met his beautiful wife, Agnes, who had come on a whim with her twin sister, and a new polo chapter was born. Over the years, the couple created the ultimate polo experience.

Today, Newport International Polo hosts over 3,000 enthusiastic polo fans every Saturday in June, July, August and September. There are several different opportunities for spectators to enjoy the match. Choose from reserved polo pavilion seating, reserved tables in the enclosure, reserved tailgate spaces or come early to secure a spot in the open spaces. There are also bleachers if you just want to show up and enjoy the match. Newport International Polo also provides for spectator needs with food trucks, the Twisted Pony bar, their own pro shop with lovely signature clothing, jewelry and other great items.The Newport International Polo field is slightly smaller than a regulation field which makes for up close excitement for the fans.

Vanderbilt International Properties is a proud sponsor of Newport International Polo. When possible we assist with hosting the teams and helping with the annual Newport International Polo Ball held at the historic Rosecliff Mansion overlooking the ocean. The Ball, which selects a worthy charitable foundation every year, is always the first Friday in August with the match with the visiting team the next day. It makes for a really fun weekend.

Newport International Polo is just another great diversion offered on Aquidneck Island. After years of enjoying the matches and meeting many of the interesting teams visiting from all over the world, we feel it is a privilege to be a part of the polo community and are happy to introduce the sport and tailgating fun to many new to the area.
