In Remembrance of Peter de Savary (1944-2022) Co-Founder of Vanderbilt International Properties Ltd.
Affectionately known as “PdeS”, Peter de Savary was a well-known, larger than life international entrepreneurial businessman, who applied his skills in many areas, including the petroleum industry, shipping, shipyards, property, import/export and the club and hospitality industry amongst others. His activities have spanned three continents. His thoughtful real estate developments and restoration of private homes, castles and historic mansions were legendary. He co-founded Vanderbilt International Properties with Stacie Mills, broker/owner, in 2010 after Stacie sold him the historic Vanderbilt Hall Hotel in Newport. He was also as a partner in the successful Newport harbor front development, Vanderbilt Residences on Brown and Howard Wharf. Prior to co-founding VIP LTD, Stacie worked for PdeS from 2001 on signature real estate projects in the Newport, RI area, Devon, England, Abaco, Bahamas and Grenada, West Indies.

Peter de Savary became enchanted with Newport, RI after he led the British syndicate in the 1983 America’s Cup. He founded Carnegie Abbey Club (now The Aquidneck Club) in 1999, a 350-acre sporting estate with a championship “links-style” golf course, equestrian, tennis and an Adirondack-styled clubhouse along the signature 18th fairway on Narragansett Bay. He owned and restored a wide array of private historic homes and mansions in Newport including “Wildacre”, “Vernon Court”, “Ivy Tower”, “Oakwood”, “Merrillton” and “The Orchard”. A knowledgeable sailor and yachtsman, de Savary could be seen on one of his many sailing yachts or navigating in his vintage Riva on Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay.
A man of tremendous vision, with exacting attention to detail and impeccable taste, PdeS was a tremendous mentor and true friend. He is greatly missed by us all at Vanderbilt International Properties Ltd. however, his spirit and business acumen shall live on in our company.
